“We Slytherins look after our own… The corridors of Hogwarts can throw up surprises for the unwary, and you’ll be glad you’ve got the Serpents on your side as you move around the school. As far as we’re concerned, once you’ve become a snake, you’re one of ours – one of the elite. Because you know what Salazar Slytherin looked for in his chosen students? The seeds of greatness. You’ve been chosen by this house because you’ve got the potential to be great, in the true sense of the word. All right, you might see a couple of people hanging around the common room whom you might not think are destined for anything special. Well, keep that to yourself. If the Sorting Hat put them in here, there’s something great about them, and don’t you forget it.“ -requested by anonymous

COMPLETE HOGWARTS HOUSE EVALUATION : 004. SLYTHERIN
G e n e r a l - P e r s o n a l i t y
First, it should be pointed out that, despite the unfair reputation they are often given, Slytherins are not, in any way, naturally evil. Evil comes in many forms and that includes in the forms of all the Hogwarts houses, not just one. Slytherins are just hungry in their ambition, self-confident, and driven. They do not let emotions or obligations get in their way, because once they set goals, they full intend to go for them, no matter what is in their path. So they don’t truly mean to hurt people when they do, they are just incredibly blunt and straightforward, a trait that can be seen as shocking to the more emotional houses. In short, Slytherins are strong and beautiful in this strength, as they hold their ground and refuse to be nothing in the world.
P o s i t i v e - & - N e g a t i v e - T r a i t s
The most positive pieces of a Slytherin are their determination and will. They are strong-minded, and you cannot take them down with your words. They can do bad all on their own, they do not need your approval or consent, therefore your opinion makes nothing to them. They take pride in their accomplishments, often making new goals along with their general long-term ideals, so they are always setting rewards for themselves and making sure they feel successful in life.
Slytherins can have a roaring self-confidence, which to some can be seen as a bad thing, but really helps them in life quite often. They are powerhouses and they are good at it, which means they are great at persuasion and sweet talking their way into something that they want. This is a great trait, because it means they do not have to resolve to brute force and argument, which they have no problem with initiating either. They can cause conflict and offend others easily, though this is often not intended, they are just blunt and rather apathetic to the views of others, and do not think of what they say in this manner.
Oddly, the positive traits of a Slytherin are also their downfall. This is because they have extreme highs and lows, caused by their own doing. Others cannot put them down, but they can quickly hurt themselves, thinking of everything they have ever done wrong and suddenly thinking themselves a failure, and to some degree panicking over it. Sometimes their barriers can come down and they aren’t sure how to react to things, like a scared child, and in these times they need a friend, not to be pushed away, though during these times they may also lash out.
C o m m o n - S t a r - S i g n s
An incredibly common sign for a Slytherin is Libra, as both are great in the art of smooth talking and weighing all their options to figure out what is the best for them. Both can often be very materialistic, though they can be equally kind when they want to be. A sign seen in the more social, and at times even more ambitious Slytherin may be Gemini.
H o b b i e s
Any hobbies a Slytherin takes up has to be one they consider useful, because if they feel they are wasting their time, they get angry with themselves very quickly. So often they take up hobbies more so as back-up plans than enjoyment, things that if need be could be a good career along the road. This could include things such as sports, usually rougher ones such as football or rugby, graphic or web design, and writing of novels.
F r i e n d s h i p s
Quite often, Slytherins can go in and out of friendships, not really retaining them, because friends aren’t always part of their plans. They tend toward a few close friends, and these friends they are incredibly loyal to, and some of the people they care about most in their life. Slytherins can come off as cold and uncaring, but never underestimate the love they have for their family and friends, it is strong and relentless. They are not the type to spread rumours about you, because if they were to do something like that, they would much rather do it to strangers, not people they would rather not hurt. If a Slytherin does hurt you and they realize it, they have a hard time saying they are sorry, because apologizing to them is a sign of weakness. When they try to talk to you as much as possible and seem much more polite, it is usually a sign they are sorry for whatever it is they have done.
I n t i m a t e - R e l a t i o n s h i p s
A relationship with a Slytherin is a bit like a forest fire, hard to control and even harder to extinguish. They can be incredibly passionate when they want to be, and like to heat things up and experiment, as their sex appeal means a lot to them, even when they aren’t comfortable discussing it. Just as they can do this however, if you upset them, their emotions can go off like the flipping of a switch, and they can detach from the relationship completely, acting like they never cared about you at all. A Slytherin scorned is not something you want, as romance is just a silly game to them, one that any moment can be destroyed if you say the wrong thing.
T y p o l o g y
The average typology for a Slytherin is INTJ (Introvert-Intuitive-Thinking-Judging). This varies for everyone, of course, but by nature Slytherins are goal-oriented, very good at keeping themselves away from the feelings of others, and strong in their mindset.

Note: This section of the analysis is not diagnosis, just a common observation. Do not take it as a diagnosis, nor ask me to diagnose you. If you believe you may have a disorder of some kind and are concerned about it, please seek a professional.
Slytherins can be narcissistic at times, and generally cold to the feelings of others, instead focusing on their own needs and ideals. They can put others down this way, though it is often not as intentional as you may think it is, it simply comes as a second instinct to them to be this way. They can also be perfectionists by nature, getting incredibly frustrated and hurt when things do not go the way they expected them too. They hid their emotions so well it is almost scary, but when it comes down to it they are the second most emotional house there is, and can therefore be prone to extreme highs or lows, and at times even depression. They can be very avoidant to situations which may engage their sympathies.
R e l i g i o u s - V i e w s
Slytherins are the most agnostic in their views of all the houses. This is because they believe whatever it is they believe, but they very rarely dwell on it, and they could care less what others believe either. They are more into the general idea of the human race and how they act as a whole, rather than sides of good or evil, that does not interest them in the slightest. As they see it everyone is down a specific path, and they are along to have fun in the duration of the ride.
P o l i t i c a l - V i e w s
Some Slytherins have no interest in politics whatsoever, but those that do love debate, and are very venomous in their nature when it gets down to it. They are prone to arguing, though they will listen to what you have to say, you will rarely change their mind. Instead, you will probably often find them to be very convincing, and you may be reevaluating your own thoughts by the time they are through with you.
C a r e e r s
Common career and occupational choices among Slytherins are those that are very prestigious or those that are looked well upon, because they expect only the best for themselves. They may want to be surgeons, doctors, attorneys, or journalists. The more artistic of Slytherins may also enjoy acting, singing, or dancing.
I d e a l - E n v i r o n m e n t
The ideal environment for a Slytherin is the one in which they feel they are at the top of their game, and in which they are saying what goes on around them. They have a deep need to be independent as well as superior, so they like to climb their way to the top of the food chain. Literally speaking, Slytherins may tend toward warmer, more humid areas.
S e l f - P e r c e p t i o n
Slytherins have two perceptions about themselves, depending on their mood. The first is that they are a fantastic, accomplished person, ready to take charge and be the best they can be. The second opinion, when they start to put themselves down or are in a low place, is that they are rude individuals who are lonely at heart.
L i f e - M i s s i o n
The mission of a Slytherin is to do what it is they do best, make their name known, and show pride in where it is they come from.
A Slytherin Taurus can often be a rarity, given the stability of the Taurus sign and the often emotional instability of the Slytherin. It is, however not unheard of. Often Taurean Slytherins are like solid rocks, as the urge to bottle up their emotions is very common for both the house and the sign. They are very lazy with their emotions and actions, wishing they could do away with the real world and, most of the time, not feel anything. They like the comfortably numb ideal, with no emotional baggage to hold onto their tail. Unfortunately for them, this concept often fails, as the need to lend a hand on the Taurus side often outweighs the ambition of the Slytherin. So while all their intentions are to tend to themselves and what they want, they tend to unthinkingly do the opposite. Relationships are a very rare thing for this combination, and if they have a stable and open relationship with you in which they express their emotions, you truly mean something to them, as the combined stubbornness of the Snake and the Bull is rarely outmatched.

Hogwarts House Psychoanalysis
Gryffindor
True Gryffindors have a very strong sense of what is right and what is wrong, and this is a part of what gives them such strong opinions. Depending on the person, this may be taken to a Borderline degree, and they may see people as either good or evil, not in between and no chance of redemption for those on the darker sides of things. Alternately, Gryffindors may see all people as being initially good, and only making the wrong choices take the down the wrong road. Both of these behaviours are why Gryffindors and Slytherins can easily clash. Gryffindors are usually incredibly intelligent, but they tend to be slackers, more focused on getting a taste of something new than sticking to responsibility. This can be their downfall from success, or quite the opposite, bringing them a rise up into something they love. Once they find their true place in the world, Gryffindors will often use their accomplishments to the benefit of others in some form or fashion. Actors, singers and athletes can often be classified as Gryffindors. Despite their good intentions, they can also quite often be ill-tempered and overly emotional, which is their Achilles’ Heel in most instances. A darker Gryffindor may become out of control because of this, hurting those they love or holding a grudge for many years.
Hufflepuff
Essentially, Hufflepuffs see the world and their people as ultimately good, and only the darkness of the inevitable turning them away from what they think is right. Because of this, they tend to treat everyone fairly and with sympathy, trying to put themselves in the other person’s shoes before judging them, if they judge them at all. Hufflepuffs are almost always maternal or paternal types, ready to take care of anyone who may come to them. They are dedicated to what they do, and are very focused on making sure everything is done properly, leaving no room for error. Mostly, Hufflepuffs think what they do is right, and Ravenclaws who doubt them may annoy them, but Hufflepuffs hate conflict, so they tend to ignore their irritation. Hufflepuffs are very passive aggressive, doing little things subconsciously when someone makes them angry. This is usually the farthest they will go so far as revenge, as they rarely want to participate in any form of violence. Hufflepuffs are healers in nature, wishing to care to the needs of others. Many nurses, cooks, teachers or counselors are Hufflepuffs.
Ravenclaw
Intelligent and insightful, Ravenclaws are not ones to classify people under any certain category. Instead they often ponder on humanity, what is good, what is evil and why we should classify people as one or the other. Ravenclaws are very philosophical, and often you may see them simply staring off into space, but this is not in some brainless manner, in fact they are exploring the gears of their mind and trying to figure out how the world works. Ravenclaws are focused on their work, but they often don’t need effort. They tend to pick up on every detail and remember it without even trying, something that others may be skeptical of or be jealous of. This can give some a sense of superiority and the idea they should tell everyone the right way to do something, which can easily make others, especially nervous Hufflepuffs or emotional Gryffindors, very irritated. Ravenclaws are very analytic, and this can be very good or very bad. For the kind-hearted this will be a way to help others, for the dark they can use this to twist and manipulate. Ravenclaws are not every emotional, instead they tend to put up a wall and not let anyone in except for perhaps their closest friends or family. Instead they pick at the minds of others, trying to figure out how they work and to see if they themselves are different, or just the same as everyone else. Psychologists, professors and investigators are often Ravenclaws.
Slytherin
Slytherins have a more cynical view on the world, and believe that there is darkness in the hearts of all, some are just unwilling to accept it. They think anyone who doesn’t realize this is naive or perhaps even stupid, and because of this they can easily clash with Gryffindors or laugh at Hufflepuffs. This said, Slytherins are absolutely in no way evil, some are actually very good. They simply have a drive that carries their life, and if you get in their way you better watch out. Slytherins have an almost bloodthirsty craving for success, and if they don’t think they can achieve this then they can easily fall into a darker place of self-loathing and take this out on others. Love and accomplishment are the two things that mean the most to them, and they do not understand that the need for the latter can drive away the former, and when the feeling of pride fades or they fail at something, their possible lack of something dear and close to them can hit, and when it hits it hits hard. Slytherins are very emotional, however unlike Gryffindors they very rarely show it. Instead they bottle it up, using it in other ways, some of which may be artistic. Slytherins can very easily connect to art or music. Slytherins usually pick one subject they feel for and stick with it, rather than focusing on them all. This can be an issue academically, and some Slytherins may even drop out of school, but despite this their ambition will drive them to doing something they love, or they will have a downward spiral into depression. Lawyers, doctors and artists are often Slytherins.
This is simply based upon my opinion and obviously does not apply to everyone within every house. Do not take this too seriously as to get offended by anything I say. If you enjoy this and wish for me to analyze combined houses, like this post.
There are kind Slytherins.
There are brave Hufflepuffs.
There are some stupid Ravenclaws.
There are twisted Gryffindors.
Your House doesn’t define you.
And please, the next time you’re about to tease someone for being a lowly Hufflepuff, or a slimy Slytherin, or a stuck up Ravenclaw or even a foolish Gryffindor, just remember that we are all Hogwarts students. We’re all part of the magic.
preach!

I got Slytherin, surprise surprise. I’ve always known and have always gotten Slytherin. Always the ambitious one that’s me. Anyway I liked this quiz more than others, it seemed more deep and insightful and not run-of-the-mill questions. So if you want a pretty accurate quiz go here.
Thiiiiiiis. There is nothing wrong with ambition. Gryffindor and Hufflepuff you could argue are values-based sortings — bravery and loyalty have to do with what kind of person you are. But cleverness and ambition do not. That a person is clever or ambitious is a completely neutral fact about them, it tells you nothing about whether they are kind or cruel, honest or deceitful, trustworthy or fickle.
That I think I’m more driven than I am courageous, constant or intelligent does not mean that I’m on Team Voldemort, okay? okay.
#Sometimes I feel like very few people remember that Harry was only sorted into Gryffindor because he begged the Sorting Hat to not put him in Slytherin. #There are so many grey areas to morality and it’s so subjective anyway that automatically thinking Slytherins are evil pisses all over everything Snape did to help the fight against Voldemort.
All of this. It always irked the damn hell out of me when people automatically assumed Slytherin’s were all bad - I mean what, are a bunch of eleven year old kids evil? Does being sorted into that House just mean they’ve crossed a line from ‘innocent child’ to ‘evil’?
While I agree with all of this, I think it’s easy for others to assume Death Eaters = Slytherin because of Ron’s line in the first book: “There’s not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn’t in Slytherin.” Of course, that’s been proven otherwise by Peter Pettigrew (and I’ve heard Hufflepuffs could make good Death Eaters too, due to their loyalty trait), but that can easily get mixed up in readers’ heads as time goes by, eventually becoming “All Slytherins are evil.”
No, most eleven year old kids are not inherently evil; however, look at the environment that is projected on them from the time they are born. Most of the Slytherins we know are children of Death Eaters. Their parents would want their children to follow in their footsteps, at least with their beliefs. And if the students not children of Death Eaters, they are friends (or in very close quarters) with those who are.
The intention of Slytherin house does not equal evil; however, in Potterverse that is what the house has grown to mean. Views of the house might be different now that the war is over. Or maybe not, due to the prejudices of Harry’s generation.
You mean Hagrid. That was Hagrid’s line, not Ron’s. It was also never explained when everyone believed Sirius was a Death Eater, but he was revealed to have been in Gryffindor House in the fifth book.
I believe you also have to take into consideration the fact that most of those Slytherin kids were probably raised in houses where it was believed that Voldemort’s was right and they weren’t introduced to any other belief until Hogwarts. Just my opinion.
